what we do
transitional housing model
First Step Florence focuses on helping families in the Florence, Oregon area who are in need of safe, stable, transitional housing. We offer the only transitional housing program in the Florence region.
Our unique program helps participants to set and achieve goals appropriate for their family’s individual circumstances and includes housing assistance, job placement, budgeting guidance and a financial savings plan.
First Step resources and programs are designed to encourage successful living and to date has helped more than 50 families and their children move beyond housing insecurity and financial instability.
First Step Florence offers private housing units for individual families in a safe and secure location. Our location is mantained and fully monitored by the First Step Board & Staff.
We are in the beginning stages of developing a permanent location for our program on a parcel of land owned by First Step Florence located North of town. This will include additional new housing units. Our long term goal is to add a playground and community space.

our program
First Step Florence (FSF) provides a program that helps support and guide families toward self-sufficiency while providing safe/stable short term housing units. Families in need of housing are fully vetted and complete a stringent application process prior to being admitted to the program.
Families are supported and monitored throughout their participation in the program and are required to follow a comprehensive agreement that guides their involvement in order to continue in the program. FSF supports progress toward each individual family's goals. FSF provides a family safe environment that is free from violence, drugs, and illicit activity.

Grounds maintenance, storage space, household goods. . .
- First Step is in need of storage space for donated furniture and household items for families in need. Do you have space in your garage or storage unit?
- From time to time, First Step is in need of donated linens, new pillows, window treatments, furniture and appliances.
- Donated automobiles, RVs and trailers are also used for clients in need or sold to help cover program costs.
